Board games are a fantastic way to connect with your children and enjoy quality family time. Finding age-appropriate games has been a rewarding journey, and now I’m excited to share a list of games that have been perfect for our family.
2-3 years old (2-3 歳)
These games are designed for young children to learn what games are and to experience the joy of playing board games for the first time. Many of the games rely heavily on luck, which is key to having an equal chance of winning for everyone—siblings of different ages or parents and kids .
これらのゲームは、小さい子どもがゲームたるものが何なのかを学び、ボードゲームで遊ぶ楽しさを初めて経験するためのものです。多くのゲームは運の割合が多いので、年齢差がある兄弟や親子が一緒に遊んでも、みんな平等に勝てる確率がある、というところがポイント。大人の満足度が低いのは、あまり頭を使わないところにありますが、子供と一緒にゲームをできるという嬉しさは大きいです。

配られた時から勝ち負けの運命が決まっているという、100％運任せのゲーム。よって、年齢差、歳の差関係なく、それぞれのプレイヤーが勝てる可能性が平等にある。一番最初に遊んで覚えるカードゲームとしては最適。バージョンによっては、カードの大きさも普通のトランプより大きく、子供が持ちやすくなっているものもある。
4-5 years old (4-5 歳)
These games are great for kids starting to understand the rules and patterns, and can begin to use strategy. When there’s a big age gap, adjusting rules can level the playing field and help build confidence. Games that require speed can also highlight differences in abilities, so it might be a good idea to try different games based on personality, and experiment gradually.
これらのゲームは、ある程度、ゲームの規則やパターンが分かってきて、戦略 (strategy) を使えるようになってくる年齢向けです。年齢がそのままゲームの勝ち負けに反映することも多いので、歳の差がある兄弟が一緒に遊ぶ場合、ルールを工夫して平等に勝てる機会を作ってあげると少しずつ自信に繋がるかもしれません。速さ (speed) を要するゲームも、得意・不得意が分かれるところなので、性格に合わせて、少しずつ試してみてもいいかもしれません。

Compare cards on the table and in hand. The player who finds a matching image flips their card. The first to flip all their cards in hand wins. Simple rules make it ideal for kids practicing quick reflex games. The card numbers can be adjusted for skill, allowing adults and kids to compete equally. Themes include Star Wars, Disney, and more.
場と手元のカードを比べて、同じ絵柄を見つけた人からカードを裏返し、最初に手元のカードを全て裏返したプレイヤーが勝ち。ルールが簡単なので、スピードを要するゲームの練習をしたい子向け。能力に対応してカードの枚数を変えられるので、大人と子供が対等に遊べるゲーム。またスターウォーズ、ディズニーなど、色々なバリエーションがある。

A game combining Bingo with card drawing (from a fun machine!). If two or more players want the same card, speed is key as they compete for it. When adults or siblings of different ages play, younger ones may lose due to slower speed. Adjust rules, like taking turns or using rock-paper-scissors, to balance the game to be fun for all players.
ビンゴにカードを引く楽しさが加わったゲーム。２プレイヤー以上が同じカードが欲しい場合、プレイヤー同士がカードを取り合うことになるので、スピードもある程度必要になってくる。大人が加わったり、歳の差兄弟が一緒に遊ぶと、幼い方はスピードで負けてしまうことが多くなる可能性あり。その場合は、カードを順番に取ったり、ジャンケンで決めたりと、ルールを工夫するといい。

A simple game where players place cards on a U.S. map. The first to fill their chosen region’s states wins. It relies entirely on luck, so young children can win fairly. Recommended for ages 4–5 because: 1. Players must read state names (adults can assist), 2. Younger children may not be interested in maps yet. It’s engaging for a bit older kids to learn U.S. state locations.
カードを引いて、米国マップの上に乗せていく単純なゲーム。一番最初に、自分の領域内の全州の空欄が埋まった方が勝ち。運に任せるので、小さい子も平等に勝てるゲーム。２−３歳でなく、４−５歳のカテゴリに入っている理由は、1) カードに書いてある州名を読めないとゲームが進まない 2) 年齢が若すぎると、州や地図に興味がない可能性がある、などである。大人にとって少し物足りないゲームだが、アメリカの州の位置が学べて、４、５歳の子供達が夢中になるゲームである。

A two-player game where players take turns placing pieces to align four of the same color in a row. Similar to a Japanese game called Gomoku Narabe. It’s simple but mentally challenging and fun. While some children may struggle to beat adults, those with strong critical thinking can often outsmart adults easily.
１対１で遊ぶゲーム。２プレイヤーが順番にそれぞれの色のデスクを入れていき、４つ先に並んだ方が勝ち。日本の五目並べに似ている。ルールは簡単でスピードも要らないが、頭を使うので、子供が大人に勝つのが難しい場合もある。ただし、考えることが得意な子にとっては、子供独特の頭の柔らかさで、大人でも勝てないぐらい腕が上がってしまうゲームである。

カードを引いて、スゴロクのように駒を進めていくゲーム。カードの運に頼る部分が多いので、戦略やスピードの強弱が出にくく、ゲームを習いたての小さい子向け。振り出しに戻ることが多く、なかなか終わらないこともある。スゴロク形式のボードゲームの基礎を学ぶのにピッタリのゲーム。
Uno Flip

普通のUnoとルールはほぼ同じだが、Flipカードが出たら、手持ち・場のカードを裏返して「ダークサイド」のルールに沿ってゲームを続ける。ダークサイドは普通のUnoより厳しく、+1 の代わりに+5や、Skip の代わりにSkip All などがある。Uno Flipに慣れると、ふつうのUnoでは物足りなくなるぐらい大人も夢中になってしまう。Flipをして大逆転が狙えるので、手持ちのカードで何とかしないといけない普通のUnoに比べて、小さい子達や負けている人でも、勝てる可能性が大きい。
